Yummy Harvest Treats!

Here are the pictures of the stuff I brought out to the field today;

'Bundles of Goodness'

Recipe:
1 lb. Ground Beef
Salt
Pepper
Salt Free Garlic Seasoning
Dried Cut Onions (In the seasoning isles)
8 oz. Cream Cheese
3 cans regular crescent roles

Preheat Oven to 375.  Cube cream cheese.  Brown hamburger, adding the seasonings and onions to taste, drain.   Add cream cheese to beef, stir until cream cheese is melted and the beef is creamy.  Unroll crescent roles.  Add a dollop of the beef mixture to the center of the crescent roles.  Role up and seal.  Bake for 11 to 13 minutes or until brown.

Dinner out in the field

Frozen Fruit Slush (Recipe Courtesy of one of the Farmer's Wives!)

Serves 12
3 medium firm bananas, sliced
1/2 cup thawed lemonade concentrate
6 medium ripe peaches, peeled and cubed
3 cubs water
1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple, undrained
2 cups sugar
1 1/3 cups seedless grapes, halved
1 cup thawed orange juice concentrate

In large bowl, stir the bananas and lemonade concentrate until coated.  Stir in the remaining ingredients.  Spoon into plastic cups.  Freeze for around 6 hours or until firm.  Remove from the freezer just before going to the field, mixture becomes slushy in the hot sun.

Results:
Well, I think everything went over well.  They all said that they liked it, but it's not like they would say it was gross! They guys had seconds and thirds and fourths of the Bundles and Tom even took an extra fruit slushy so I'm guessing it went over ok.  All for today, I have to clean the kitchen and make Matt's lunch for tomorrow!

Harvest Food

As I write this today I am in the process of making a few things to take out to the field for supper tonight.  We're lucky this year, they guys all pack their own lunches so we don't have to worry about taking lunch out too - just supper!  Anyway, as I was deciding on what to make for dinner this evening, I couldn't find any resources on great field recipes.  Every search I tried online yielded no results!  I did have a few recipes that I got from my Farm Wives group, but most of the recipes I received from them were for sit down meals.  Matt likes it when I bring things that can be carried around.
So today, I made a fruit slushy (I can't remember who brought that recipe - but thanks!), home-made chex mix and what I like to call 'Bundles of Goodness' which are crescent roles wrapped around a mixture of beef and cream cheese.  I can make these ahead of time and wrap them in tinfoil.  Heat and then go!  I'm also bringing water and Pepsi, so I think that should be good.  The guys aren't too picky and I think are just happy someone is bringing them food!  I'll post pics later!

Summer Fun!

It has been so nice staying at home with Ava this summer.  Especially since I am pregnant with number 2!! That's right - Ava's going to be a big sister.  I have been pretty nauseous and today I was so dizzy I couldn't move.  Thank goodness for the in-laws - they really saved me by taking Ava so I could camp out on my chair and in bed.
Otherwise, it's been pretty fun!  Ava and I go out to run errands and shopping and she plays or goes swimming in the backyard.  Today felt so weird because she wasn't around all day!
Ava swimming!

Ava and I have a lot of art projects planned and we are also going to go to the zoo in Salina one of these days.  Then, at the end of July we are going to go visit my friend Crystal in Omaha so she can meet Ava and we can go to the Henry Doorly Zoo (the best zoo in the world).  Ava's just been my little buddy this summer!
So harvest is postponed by a few days because of the rain.  I'm taking this as a blessing because I feel so yucky and it won't be fun making food for everyone if I feel like this!  Pray that this baby starts to behave so I can help out!
That's about all for now, I'll try to be better about updating!

New House!

We finally got moved in!  We decided to move last weekend, because it was the only weekend for a month that we would have time and in a month Matt would be REALLY REALLY busy, so we decided to bite the bullet and just do it.  Well, last Wednesday, I get a phone call from Matt while I'm at work, "How would you feel if we moved today, because it's to windy to work on the farm so Tom is going to move us today." "Ok!" I said not thinking of the consequences.  While it was WONDERFUL to get everything moved and not have to move it myself, I kind of wish I would have said no.  I didn't know that Tuesday night was my last night in my home, the last night I would put Ava to bed in her bedroom.  I didn't realize how hard it would be to leave that house.  I bought it when I was single.  I got engaged, married, pregnant and brought my Ava home to that house and then all of a sudden - not.
I went over to the house after work and cried and cried.  It was like I was abandoning a family member.  I told Matt I will unpack my ass off, but I could not go back to the house.  I went back to get Mia and then again on Sunday I took Ava over to walk through the house after we had it cleaned.  I cried and cried again.  I never thought about how hard it would be to leave that house!
I am glad that we moved and I do like the new house.  I am just anxious for it to be 'home' soon!

Yikes!

Our New House!
It's been a looooooooong time since I updated! Sorry! I have been so busy with school, work, home and the fact that we got our new house! Yea!
Finally, after 6 very long months, our THIRD offer was finally accepted and we moved forward with buying the house. We signed the contract about 2 weeks ago and are just waiting to get everything done so we can move!
We put in new carpet and are getting some walls painted and will be moving in soon. It was going to be this weekend, but Matt has a bunch of family coming in so it will probably be the weekend after.

Ava just keeps on getting more and more amazing. I can't believe how old she is getting and how much she talks now! Although, she is going through the 'no' phase. Everything is 'No!' It's a good thing she is so cute!
May 8th I have my final portfolio presentation in Emporia and then I AM DONE!!!! I can not wait until I am finished with graduate school!
That's about all for now, I have to get back to work. Hopefully I won't be as bad with the updates!

Slacking!! :-(

I have been really slacking off in the wife/mother/house-manager department!  I have pictures from MONTHS ago that I need to get ordered.  And before that, I have pictures that I ordered and received, but haven't put into a photo-album.  I haven't even ordered the Christmas photos!
Plus, I need to pay more bills.  Is it just me, or do they keep coming and coming.  It seems like I do a whole pile of them and then Bam!  I get 5 more in the mail!  I wish they could just come at the same time so I don't have to be so creative in my payments!
BUT, I did get the laundry done (almost, I still have to fold Ava's clothes and put sheets on the bed) dishes done, carpet vacuumed and Matt swept the kitchen and cleaned part of the bathroom for me.  He did that even though he had to work all weekend!  His uncle pulled a muscle so he couldn't chore and the other hired-man was out of town this weekend, so Matt had to do it all by himself!  That's ok, he got to take a whole week off when we went on our cruise!
Anyway, not very exciting stuff, just a regular weekend in the life of a farmer's wife!!!

Busy, busy busy!

So right now, I am just kind of procrastinating.  I have a bunch of new books to catalog and get out on the shelves, plus my budget needs to have some attention and I have a TON of homework to do!  AUGHHHH!!!!!!
On a brighter side, if we get to move, I am planning on decorating the kitchen in that 'Country Kitchen' look.   Here are a couple of examples:

I think I might have to do the Country Hearts one, I really like that one!!!!
Let me know what you think!

I got to stay at home with Ava yesterday and it was awesome!  I am really excited for this summer when I will be home with her.  Anyway, I need to go and get to work!

Maybe moving?

Right now we are living in a lovely, but itty bitty house! We are hoping to move to a bigger home in town. Right now there are no homes for sale that we can afford out in the country, so Matt will have to be a commuter farmer for a while longer! This is a picture of our current home. Isn't it just so cute? It has an amazing back yard that faces the hills and fields of the country, so when and if we move, I am going to feel even more claustrophobic in town!
Oh well, we hope to add another child to our family and this little house just won't hold us anymore!

Hello from a Farmer's Wife!

This is hopefully a very new project for me. I am very excited about the possibilities of letting people know about what it's like being married to a farmer in today's world. Many people don't realize how hard farmers work to bring you your food and I am hoping to let the world know!
